Abstract :
Poetry is a creative language which enhances imagination and self-reflection. However, the ambiguity of poetry increased the difficulty in interpretation, which builds students´ negative perception because they consider that reading poetry is joyless and hard-understanding. Furthermore, the negative perception demotivates most students to read poetry. Therefore, to motivate students to read poetry, there is a need to improve the negative perception of poetry. Meanwhile, previous research shows games are able to avoid ambiguity by providing clear feedback and guidance. Besides, many studies also suggest game-based learning positively improves students´ learning perception and motivation. To the end, this study develops a game-based learning system to motivate students to read poetry. The results show this game-based learning system significantly improves students´ interpretation and perception. However, the long-term negative perception and the lack of self-efficacy affect students´ motivation to read poetry after gaming.
