  • Abstract
In this paper, the focus is on the cell edge users of a cellular system. This is because in order to maximize the system throughput, the communication systems employ very tight frequency reuse. This leads to interference limited systems where the interference is highest at the cell edges. The key ingredients of such networks are the receivers that are able to exploit the structure of the interference instead of nullifying or attenuating it. One such interference suppression strategy based on a low complexity matched filter (MF) based receiver has been proposed. The matched filter is the optimal linear filter for maximizing the signal to noise ratio (SNR) in the presence of additive stochastic noise. Normally all the interferences are assumed to be Gaussian and are merged with noise, but with the proposed receiver exploitation of the structure of the existing dominant interference while detection occurs is made possible. Analysis of the Minimum mean square error (MMSE) has been done and it has been observed how the detector not only recuperates the diversity(the maximum number of independent copies of the transmitted signal in a particular communication system) order lost by MMSE but also exhibits a coding gain as the interference gets stronger.
