Abstract :
The IEEE ICNP PhD Forum 2013 took place on October 7, 2013 in Gottingen, Germany as part of the IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols. It was intended for both doctoral students who are starting their PhD and those who are towards the end of their dissertation to discuss their work. The PhD Forum has been a regular event of IEEE ICNP for the past years but this was the first time that the forum was held as a full day event including keynote talks, short oral presentations, and group discussions. This year 28 papers were submitted from 15 countries, mainly from Asia, Europe, and North America. All articles have been reviewed by up to four members of the technical program committee. External experts have been consulted in case of conflicting positions. Finally, after a thorough online discussion, 17 submissions were selected for publication. The selection process was not driven by restrictiveness but to allow PhD students with fresh and inspiring work presentation. The comprehensive program was due to the invaluable contributions of the authors and the suggestions of the PhD Forum TPC members. We are deeply grateful to them. We would like to thank the organizers of ICNP, in particular the Workshop Chairs Lars Eggert and J??rg Ott for their support. We specially thank our keynote speakers, Emmanuel Baccelli and Eric Osterweil, who share their experiences in professional research in academia and industry with participants of the PhD Forum.
