Abstract :
This paper discusses a multidisciplinary methodology for the 3D reconstruction of the hypothesized ancient landscape along the Tiber Valley North of Rome in the 8th century AD . As part of the CNR-ITABC Tiber Valley Virtual Museum project´ we used quantitative evaluation of geological and ecological data´ historical´ archaeological and demographic information. Moving from theory and literature on spatial archeology´ the project is implemented through advanced raster algebra operations in GRASS-GIS´ output to maps which are then imported in the VUE terrain engine for photorealistic 3D landscape generation.
