  • Abstract
In order to construct an integrated sounding rocket experimental platform and to record the status of the sounding rocket as well as onboard payloads, an onboard video processing system based on the wavelet transform compression algorithm is designed in this paper. Specifically, the system utilizes a compression algorithm based on the bi-orthogonal (9, 7) discrete wavelet transform and implements field independent subband coding. Moreover, the system supports 10:1 to 200:1 real-time compression, and the frame rate is at range of 1fps to 25 fps (frame-per-second). To achieve a near constant compressed bit rate, the system adopts the Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) algorithm to conduct quantization control. The embedded system architecture, based on ARM and FPGA, is used to design the hardware circuit, which is characterized with the features of simple structure, high integration level and strong flexibility. Practical tests indicate that the proposed system has the characteristics of low power dissipation, low cost, small size, high reliability, high and low temperature resistance, vibration and impact resistance, which can withstand hostile environment on sounding rocket and it is very suitable for sounding rocket application.
