Abstract :
Trigonometric functions are slow and need a lot of resources to run on embedded systems. How can we calculate these functions in a more efficient way of resources and faster? In this paper we present the implementation on FPGA of the CORDIC algorithm to calculate the sine, cosine, arctangent and vector magnitude. The CORDIC IP (Intellectual Property) is described generically in Vhdl and Handel-C. Both codes work in rotational mode and vectoring mode CORDIC. It has been implemented in FPGA circuit. This IP has been used in several applications such as circular Hough transform (calculation of cosine and sine) and edge detection by the Sobel operator, Prewitt and the simple gradient (vector magnitude).
