Abstract
We shall review the history of “stochastic activity networks” (SANs) since their inception with the PERT model in 1959, and the various embellishments and contributions that have taken place since then in the subject of project planning and control in the presence of uncertainty. We shall also introduce the new concept of the “Alphorn of Uncertainty” (AoU), with examples of its application, and its use in the financial planning of a project.
