Abstract :
The traditional kanban system with a fixed number of cards does not work optimally in an unstable environment. In fact, kanban parameters should be adjusted to follow the variation of demand. Using a new approach with adaptive kanban, in dynamic production environments, kanban parameters are able to change with respect to demand variation, besides the ability to determine the appropriate time to use some temporary kanban cards called extra cards. In this paper, we propose an approach allowing responding to an exceptional variation of demand. We use a simulation platform with ARENA software to study the relevance of the adaptive kanban applied to the sheet metal cutting cell from TRANE Company.
