Abstract
As network speeds (capacities) are increasing, it has become more important to reduce network power consumption. In passive optical networks, reducing the buffer size in aggregation layer-2 switches is an effective solution, but it can lead to the decrease of bandwidth efficiency. In this paper, we propose a dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme that avoids this decrease. Simulation results show that the proposal can attain almost 2.5 times higher bandwidth efficiency compared to the conventional scheme.
