Abstract
This paper proposes a conductor backed coplanar waveguide (CB-CPW) fed antenna for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. CB-CPW design not only provides mechanical support to the substrate but also acts as a heat sink for circuit with active devices. The antenna operates in the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) frequency band (2.4 to 2.480 GHz) and the return loss value is well below -10 dB throughout the operating region. It is designed on a flame retardant woven glass reinforced epoxy resin (FR4) substrate having dimensions 20×20×1.6 mm3. The proposed design has reduced total area by 75 percentage with respect to the previous similar antenna.
