Abstract
The Indian tractor industry is the largest in the world and nearly thirty to thirty-five percent of global production. India´s current tractor penetration is estimated at twenty tractors per thousand hectares of agricultural land. A farmer´s choice of tractor size is typically a trade-off between the utility of the tractor and its price; therefore fuel utilization in the tractor plays a key role. This paper discusses about efficient utilization of fuel in tractors. As the fuel prices increase and the procurement of tractors by Indian farmers increase efficient use of fuel becomes that much important. The present Indian tractor scenario and the expected growth rate of the tractor industry have been analyzed in detail. The comparative study between the conventional technology and the proposed technology has been discussed. The idea proposed in this paper is implementation of dual clutch transmission in tractors. Pre-selection of gears using electromagnetic actuators in dual clutch transmission has been explained in detail.
