Abstract :
Studies of extensive cosmic ray air showers can be carried out by means of a network of tracking telescopes based on Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC), such as the ones used in the EEE project and installed in several high school buildings in Italy. For the readout and control of the MRPC telescopes we have developed a modular, versatile and low-cost acquisition and control system based on a motherboard (E3MB), hosting an USB interface, a GPS receiver and eight Time-to-Digital (HPTDC) chips. The simple interface via USB allows to handle both the control and data acquisition. Slow Control and voltage supply for chambers is available through special boards (E3I2C) located near the gas chambers.
