Abstract
Computed tomography imaging is a mandatory part of the permanent prostate brachytherapy procedure. It is used as a post-implant dosimetric check to evaluate the quality of the implant. It is proposed that by using a novel assembly of multiple high-resolution pixelated detectors Timepix, an in-body probe can be used as a multi-modality imaging device. Preliminary phantom studies of a PMMA prostate phantom with implanted dummy I-125 seeds (Oncura Model 6711) have shown a qualitative confirmation of three-dimensional tomographic reconstruction from limited angles and limited field of view based on iterative reconstruction algorithms.
