Abstract
This paper describes the circumstances when sampled values are involved in IEC61850 communication network where client/server and GOOSE traffic exists. The interaction of Ethernet traffic and several examples were discussed to illustrate some key issues and challenges. It shall create awareness of the issues to be taken into consideration when planning a power utility communication network.
