  • Abstract
The transport ac loss for a superconducting composite cylinder, which consists of two concentric shells with different critical current densities, is calculated in the presence of transport current. First, the nonlinear equations and the corresponding boundary conditions for the magnetic field distributions are given for increasing transport current by adopting the Kim model. Then, the integral expression of transport ac loss is derived based on the Norris equations. Finally, some typical numerical results for the ac loss are plotted graphically and analyzed in detail. The numerical results show that, among others, both the superconducting parameters of the Kim model including the outer and inner shells and the ratio of the inside and outside radii have significant and different effects on the transport ac loss.
