Abstract :
Oil particle model, which is one of the most famous oil spills behavior fate model currently, describe the oil slicks as a certain volume particle. In the model, the deterministic method is employed to simulate oil particle drift process and the random walk method to simulate the diffusion process. This paper discuss the utilization of oil spills fate model in establishing forecast system with revolution of spills drifting and new technology being implemented to improve oil spill predictions in the coastal region. An accident in Dalian region predicted by this system has been shown coincide with the real condition. The oil spills prediction system can be used for spill response and preparedness and has been proven as a useful tool for spills in the coastal region.
