Abstract :
This paper presents a frequency scanning array antenna in C-band used for radar applications. First a rectangular U-slot patch antenna proximity fed by a double-Π stub is described with an impedance bandwidth of about 18% (for VSWR<;1.5) and a gain of around 9dB. Then a series feed-network including slow-wave line is used to achieve the characteristics of frequency scan. At last a 2*6 low-profile antenna array is fabricated which the height is just 0.084λ in center frequency. Its impedance bandwidth is about 14.7%(for VSWR<;1.5) and the gain is more than 15dB. The angular range from 1 degree to 57 degree is obtained for a frequency variation of 1GHz. The antenna can also be applied for detecting covered objects and short range imaging.
