Abstract
Development of portable, handy and easy to use devices called smartphones has raised concerns of not only the researchers but also the general users. Most studies reveal that having a longer battery lifetime is the most desired feature amongst the limited computational resources like Battery, CPU and Memory in a Smartphone. Ideally, offloading a compute-intensive application over to the Cloud seems to be an oblivious fit for saving the limited battery in a Smartphone. In this paper, the focus has been made on enhancing the capabilities of smartphones by using Cloud computing and virtualization techniques to shift the workload from merely a smartphone to a resource rich computational cloud environment. The preliminary results of experimental performance and energy consumption measurements to support the idea to offload computationally expensive computations from a smartphone to a resource rich cloud environment are also presented in this paper.
