Abstract :
Photography is widely used in research, for example, as a means to map, explore and document the daily and lived experiences and meanings of people [1], but there is a lack of evaluation on how effective this method is. This study reviews literature on how photography is used in research (including design research): For what purpose? At what stage? How was data collected (e.g. by designers or users), and how was the visual data analyzed? A design research project focusing on older people´s care needs in rural China will be carried out. Participatory photography and interview with participants will be adopted. And insights focusing on photography as a method for research will be concluded and discussed.
