Abstract
In industrial web processes such as paper making, plastic film extrusion, metal rolling and coating, measurements of web properties are often obtained from gauges that scan backwards and forwards across the sheet. The measurements taken by a scanning gauges can be considered as 1-dimensional samples of a 2-dimensional variation. An extension of the generalised sampling theorem is used to reconstruct the underlying 2-dimensional variations in properties of the sheet from scanned data. The method is illustrated by results from a simulation. Strategies for implementing the technique are discussed.
