Abstract :
Novel and efficient approach is adopted to enhance spectrum usability by allowing secondary users to opportunistically access unused or under-utilized radio spectrums. Even though a number of ideas have been proposed for improving the performance of cognitive radio networks, but little attention has been given to the selection of reliable data channel(s) for communication and energy saving at MAC layer. In this paper, a Reliable Cognitive Radio multi-channel MAC protocol for Adhoc networks has been proposed which selects the reliable data channel(s) with respect to the channel ranking for reliable communication over data channels and to reduce the additional overhead at the control channel. In addition, the backup data channel has been introduced to continue the communication if PU returns. To validate the idea, we have conducted analytical and simulation results show that the proposed RCR-MAC protocol consumes less time and transmitted energy as compared with CREAM-MAC and DSA-MAC protocols.
