Abstract :
This paper deals with a generalization to Riemannian manifolds of the classical polynomials in IR™, using a variational approach. Properties of these curves, based on the notions of Jacobi fields and conjugate points, are derived. The main result states that in the absence of conjugate points the generalized polynomials locally minimize a particular cost functional.
