Abstract :
In this paper the modeling, monitoring and control of cyclically operated biological wastewater treatment plants is considered. The modeling of the system is performed using state space and parameter sensitivity analysis. The model parameters are identified, both on lab-scale and full-scale experiments. The basic problem of limited hardware measurements is challenged by developing an intelligent measurement system, in combination with the design of observer based estimators. The model based control of the system is studied using optimal control. Different performance measures are included for the design of the optimal control law. The presented methodology is applied to the UNITANK® system.
