Abstract
The Robust Performance Number (RPN) and the Robust Performance Number of a plant set (RPPN) are introduced to determine the controllability of a system. The controllability and performance of a CSTR with the Van de Vusse reaction scheme are analyzed. The choice of the operating point (OP) for the reactor is dicussed and three characteristic OPs are analyzed in detail using RPN and RPPN. An analytical expression for the transmission zero is used as the basis for a new control structure, which solves the benchmark problem proposed in [2] in a simple and efficient fashion.
