Abstract :
Internet has become unavoidable part of today´s life which is accompanied by streaming of video over internet, options of video chat and video conferencing services. Also the broadcasting sector is coming up with the technologies like VoD (Video on Demand), HD (High Definition) and storage of the programs. Various compression standards like MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.26x, x264 etc. have used the spatio-temporal correlation present in the video content. This reduces the size of storage and it also helps in reduction of data to be sent through bitstream of the encoded raw video. In this paper, homogeneity coefficient is used to classify the macroblocks into small and fast motion. The contents of the video is checked for the different values of the threshold and its impact on the different performance parameters like quality of the video, computation time and number of bits required to encode the raw video sequence. Results of videos of different motion types and with different resolutions are used to determine the suitable value of the threshold for the optimal performance by comparing all the standard parameters. Threshold value of 8 is suitable for slow motion videos and that of 7.5 is giving good results for medium and fast motion videos keeping the bitrate and PSNR at comparatively same value.
