Abstract :
The next generation of 3-D digitizing systems based on a laser range sensor must be more flexible. Systems must be portable, easy to set up, easy to use and could be hand-held. To reach this goal, three important issues are addressed: i) the integration of a hand-held sensor with a positioning device, it) the portability and system set up, and iii) the user interaction with the digitizing system. The discussion is supported by the implementation of a prototype system.
