  • Abstract
The concern about the adverse effects of mobile phone radiation on the nervous system has increased due to the drastic increase in the number of phone users. The electroencephalogram (EEG), a record of the oscillations of brain electric potentials reveals the synaptic action that strongly co-relate with brain state. As the EEG signal is non linear, non stationary and noisy, non linear methods will be suitable for the analysis. Fractal dimension (FD) is a useful concept in describing natural objects, which gives their degree of complexity. We used the fractal dimension (FD), a measure of complexity to analyze the effect of radiation while using mobile phone. Then fractal dimension of the complete data set for 21 electrodes were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis test. The test is significant for two electrodes. Then FD of different classes of EEG signals namely delta, theta alpha, beta and gamma for 21 channels were tested with Kruskal Wallis test, which is significant for three electrodes in gamma band. It can be concluded that as a whole, there is no effect on EEG complexity while using mobile phone.
