Abstract :
An axial flux hysteresis motor is a self-starting synchronous motor with outstanding characteristics such as high constant starting torque and low starting current. In this paper, effect of winding distribution and slot opening on performance of an axial flux hysteresis motor is investigated. Based on a analytical method, various types of multi-layer winding and stators with different slot geometries are proposed. Then the proposed models are evaluated by the finite element simulation and two various type of stator configurations are selected to be prototyped. In order to have good comparisons between the analytical and experimental results, all tests have been done upon the same conditions. Finally, two prototyped structures are compared in terms of torque versus input power characteristic.
