Abstract :
Modular multilevel converter (MMC) has recently gained a great deal of attractions due to interesting advantages it offers compared to other types of multilevel converters. One of the important challenges in MMC is to implement low frequency modulation techniques. Hence, in this paper, a modified selective harmonic elimination pulse-width modulation (SHE-PWM) algorithm is proposed. In contrast to the previous works, it can be applied for a single-phase MMC and is capable to eliminate low order harmonics. The validity of the proposed method is also verified by simulation on a single-phase 5-level MMC and then is confirmed by experimental results.
