Abstract :
In this paper, hybrid systems theory is used to design switching controller for Buck converters. For the first time, explicit predictive control notion is utilized to determine the switching rule for the circuit that is directly driven in ON-OFF manner (called here as logic-based converter). It is demonstrated that the implementation of the proposed switching scheme which is defined over polyhedral partitions of the state-space is more computationally tractable compared to the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) based switching schemes. Moreover, the effect of the different optimization norms in the complexity of the resulting explicit controllers is studied. It is shown that for the logic-based switching style, the 2-norm and for the PWM-based switching rule, the ∞-norm, results in the lowest number of control regions in the resulting explicit controller.
