Abstract :
To find guided and leaky axisymmetric modes supported by the circular dielectric rod efficiently, the characteristic equation is asymptotically expanded around cutoff frequency. Accordingly, the initial guesses for different types of modes are represented using Lambert W function with different branches. The efficiency of the initial guesses is verified with accurate numerical solutions.
