  • Abstract
    Small-footprint 128-Gb/s dual-polarization quadrature phase shift keying silicon optical modulator, which is suitable for high capacity metro optical-fiber transport networks, is assembled with four channel driver amplifiers in a ceramic-based metal package. A newly employed optical mode-field convertor expands mode-field diameter nearly to that of a single-mode optical fiber, to couple with the fibers in low and polarization insensitive coupling loss. Error-free transmissions for 128 Gb/s are confirmed over 1000 km in circulations loop experiments.
