Abstract
Underwater sensing receives increasing attentions in recent years due to its wide range of scientific, industrial and military applications. Because of the power-constrained underwater environment, power efficiency becomes a hard requirement for the majority of underwater systems. This paper targets power efficient deployment issue for underwater sensing systems. We first analyze the power consumption of each system component and explore various ways to improve their power efficiency. Then we propose a collaborative power-saving framework benefiting from communication and computation abilities of the sensing system. We also conduct case studies with two types of aquatic applications and provide corresponding power management strategies. Our studies show that the proposed power saving strategies could effectively extend the system life time.
