Abstract :
A new transimpedance amplifier (TIA) topology for 10 Gb/s optical communications is implemented in a standard 130 nm CMOS technology. The proposed TIA is based on a conventional regulated cascade (RGC) topology employing a cascode inverter (CI) as a proposed local feedback. The proposed CI-RGC TIA achieved transimpedance gain is 52.4 dBΩ and a -3 dB bandwidth of 8.2 GHz. The average input noise current is 1.94 μA with a sensitivity of -18.7 dBm at BER = 10-12 for a photodiode responsivity of 1 A/W. The TIA consumes a 3.6 mW from a 1.5 V single supply voltage.
