Abstract :
• Flight plans are filed 1–2 hours before take-off and often include large buffers to forecasted weather • Weather changes as flights progress, and automation does not exist to help operators determine when weather avoidance routes have become stale and could be corrected to reduce delay • Route changes can be high workload for dispatchers, traffic managers, and controllers especially during weather events when operators are busy • Even if dispatcher and controller know of a great new route, sometimes its too much work to implement.
