    IP+WDM transport benefits significantly from advancements in SDN automation, and traffic-engineering central-control optimization, potentially >30%. We discuss adoption opportunities in planning/engineering and operations/maintenance, trade-offs, and requirements for multi-phased evolution to a programmable multi-layer SDN architecture.
