Abstract :
This paper demonstrates that using a control strategy based on a fractional derivative scheme improves the response of an energy storage unit, thus making better use of the resources available versus using other control strategies based on classical PD control. The energy storage technology studied in this paper is the flywheel. By optimizing its response, the storage equipment requirements are decreased, enhancing the integration of renewable energies. The quality of the supply is also increased during situations involving a drop in inertia in an isolated electrical system.
