Abstract :
Due to large numbers of electric vehicles (EVs) are expected to be integrated into Canadian distribution systems, it is important to assess the impact of EV charging on these distribution systems. This paper investigates the effect of EV charging on a distribution network of Hydro Ottawa at a neighborhood level. Real-time distribution system data provided by Hydro Ottawa are implemented for the investigation. Both transformer capacity and secondary current limit are considered to find the maximum number of different types of EVs that can be connected to the grid in this neighborhood. An optimal charging strategy is also designed and tested in this paper.
