Abstract
In this paper, a novel dual band planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) design based on split ring elements is introduced. While split-ring elements determine the main radiation performances of the antenna, meander lines appropriately placed on the split-ring elements are used for fine frequency tuning and enhancement bandwidths of the antenna. The PIFA having a fairly compact structure provides dual band performance at 2.3 GHz and 4.8 GHZ with 17% and 58% bandwidths, respectively, thus the antenna covers whole frequency bands allocated for WLAN and WiMAX applications. Analysis and design of the PIFA carried out by means of CST simulator exhibits uniform radiation pattern characteristics at the respective frequency bands.
