Abstract :
Linearization is of enormous interest because of the need to send greater and greater amounts of information over a limited spectrum. As a result there have been numerous innovative papers greatly advancing the technology. At the same time, there seems to be loss of appreciation of the fundamentals upon which these advances are based. This paper reviews the basics of linearization, sets limits on the performance that can be achieved the impact of memory effects, and concludes with a discussion of the upper limits on frequency and bandwidth.
