Abstract :
Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) appears as a new technology for obtaining energy from either abandoned or not effectively exploited coal seam. This technology does not require any human´s activity in underground. UCG product is so called synthetic gas (syngas) which is possible to use as fuel in power plant. There are needed measurements of its properties e.g. a syngas composition, calorific value, etc. Of course, this gas has different calorific value in comparing with technical gasses (natural gas, coke-oven gas, blast furnace gas ...). Syngas belongs to the low calorific gasses. The heating capacity is necessary to measure for control of syngas combustion in power station. Therefore, measurement of syngas calorific value requires the specific calorimeter. There is a problem because standard calorimeters for industry are not suitable for measurement of low calorific gas. The calorimeters for measurement of low calorific gas are very rare and expensive. Therefore a new way had has developed for measurement of syngas calorific value and it was verified in experimental research of UCG. Method has been based on principle of indirect measurement. The application of this method enables to decrease a cost for measured facilities.
