Abstract :
In this paper we propose a modification of the LTE Radio Link Control procedures so as to reduce the number of retransmissions that need to be carried out when a video streaming service is being transmitted from the end-user terminal to the base station. We exploit the fact that, in this case, some of the frames of the video flow might be lost without a strong impact on the perceived quality of experience. We carry out an extensive simulation study over the ns-3 framework, comparing the performance of the proposed scheme with that exhibited by the legacy operation of the RLC. The results yield that our proposal is able to significantly reduce the number of retransmissions, without a strong impact on the Mean Opinion Score.
