Abstract
In this paper, a new topology for an all-optical photonic crystal directional coupler switch based on nonlinear Kerr effect, is proposed. The switch chip area is estimated about 24×11 micron squares which provide a size reduction up to 24% in comparison with previous works. All structural dimensions have been tailored and improved for the fiber communication: 1550 nm wavelength. The switch´s transient time is predicted to be less than 2 picoseconds which provides switching frequency of about 250GHz.
