Abstract :
In this paper, we study the effect of quantum dot (QD) ensemble inhomogeneous broadening on start time of lasing in photonic crystal (PC) quantum dot lasers. With considering inhomogeneous broadening, simulation results show a noticeable decrease in start time of lasing. As the lasing mode is close to lower band edge of photonic crystal cavity, it seems that the overlap between inhomogeneous broadening of QDs and band edge of cavity results in an extremely shorter delay time to start lasing.
