Abstract :
This paper proposes a constant instantaneous power based controller for a shunt active power filter system (SAPF). A SAPF has been designed, built to work under balanced; unbalanced and distorted supply conditions to meet IEEE 519 recommended harmonic standards. The shunt active filter is controlled by a constant instantaneous power based controller to act as a harmonic isolator among the supply and load. This paper discusses the performance of basic constant instantaneous power controller. Operation of the shunt active filter system under different load conditions connected together on the performance of the constant instantaneous power controller is evaluated. MATLAB/Simulink results demonstrate the effectiveness of the shunt active filter to provide harmonic damping. Total harmonic distortion of current and voltage demonstrate the practical viability of the constant instantaneous power based controller for shunt active filter to provide aharmonic isolation of non-linear loads and to comply with IEEE 519 recommended harmonic standards.
