Abstract :
This paper aspires to explore the advantages of using MIMO- OFDM over conventional communication systems to accelerate the speed of the existing cellular mobile communications, IEEE 802.11 and LTE(Long Term Evaluation) mobile systems. We analyzed the means of increasing the channel capacity not at the expense of increased bandwidth but by increasing the signal to noise ratio according to the Shannon capacity point of view. We reconnoiter the need for sending pilot symbols along with the data symbols for legitimate channel estimation so as to diminish the channel interferences and to quantify the channel capacity. We scrutinize the response of this pilot aided symbol channel estimation by using three different pilot patterns such as independent, scattered and orthogonal and the peculiarity of each of the three patterns to affect the ergodic channel capacity. In this paper we aim to achieve explosive increase in the speed of mobile communications by obtaining an optimal pilot to data power ratio (PDPR) for each of the three pilot patterns and hence justifying the fact that the channel capacity can be augmented judiciously by apportioning just 10-20% of the power to the data and pilot subcarriers. The results are simulated using LABVIEW software and a contrast is set to rank which pilot pattern is an apt candidate to optimize the channel capacity.
