Abstract :
This paper presents new developments of the RESIMA architecture. RESIMA is a smart multi-sensor assistive system aimed to assist people with sensory disability during mobility tasks in indoor environments. The exploitation of a high resolution monitoring of the user position and the user status allows for a safe and efficient management of the user-environment interaction. This paper mainly focuses on the improvements in the user localization algorithms, which already exploits an advanced trilateration algorithm, with particular regards to the implementation of an adaptive inertial tracking system. The developed approach exploits a minimization methodology of model parameters, over a set of experimental trials, which does not require a user specific learning phase. The main outcome of the proposed solutions consists in the possibility to assist the user in those areas which are not covered by the trilateration system. The obtained experimental results encourage the use of the proposed localization methodology in the framework of Ambient Assisted Living.
