Abstract :
The actual conditions prevailing at outdoor (desert) electronic metering sites were profiled through in-situ measurements of meter surface temperatures and heat flows. The mapped field conditions were then simulated in a meter testing laboratory and accuracy tests performed on transformer-operated electronic meters. Analysis of the test data reveals the deleterious effect of high ambient temperatures on the measurement accuracy and precision of electronic meter indications. Based on the study results, measures are recommended to address concerns about the reliability/accuracy of energy measurement in uncontrolled desert environmental conditions.
