Abstract :
Ignition behavior for different length of fuel spray in diesel engine was achieved by moving the hot surface plate inside the combustion chamber. During this, the total volume of combustion chamber is kept constant by placing the hot surface plate in front of the spray inside the combustion chamber. In this paper, hot surface was used to ignite the fuel inside the combustion chamber, since no piston cylinder was present in the combustion chamber. Due to variation of distances, fuel spray length and hence ignition delay time varies. The hot surface plate was kept at a different distances from the nozzle and measure the ignition delay for different temperatures and pressures. The ignition delay for different distances was measured by recording the time delay between the event of injection and the event of appearance of flame inside the combustion chamber by using Digital Storage Oscilloscope.
