Abstract
This paper presents the design and analysis of a novel high-performance magnetic transmission for converting between rotary and rectilinear motion by incorporating the merits of field modulation principle and the traditional gear rack. The magnetic transmission system is composed of inner rotor, ferromagnetic pole-pieces, and outer mover. Results show that the torque and force densities of the proposed magnetic transmission are improved significantly due to a larger magnetic field coupling area by adding the ferromagnetic pole-pieces.
